Blues band to play at ECID Festival of Lights

The band has composed original songs about two of which are about Edenvale,

Enjoy the smooth sounds of Smoke and Liquid under the Edenvale sky when they perform at the Edenvale City Improvement District’s (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival on November 5.

“Nico Lawrence’s soulfulness and quiet reflection along with the insatiable zest and curiosity of Luca Stadler, combine in a wonderful way when they play.”

According to Ms Katy Young, the public relations officer and events co-ordinator for ECID, the band’s members Nico and Luca met by chance at a local music store.

The pair, who share a passion for music, met when Luca was playing on a guitar and Nico enquired as to who was playing.

Ms Young said the two musicians initially joined a reggae group but quickly branched off on their own to concentrate more on blues-based music.

According to Ms Young both musicians began playing music when they were young.

“Music is a language that all people can understand, and I think that’s what South Africa needs right now, to be brought together, and I believe music can do that,” said Luca.

Ms Young said the band, which primarily plays blues, can play a variety of different genres which include:

“They play covers from artists such as BB King, Dire Straits, Jimi Hendrix and Santana to name just a few,” said Ms young.

She said the band has composed original songs, two of which are about Edenvale, Sweet Home Edenvale and Load Shedding in Edenvale.
