"Those injured were transported to the Edenvale Hospital."

A traffic collision on Monday, May 30, resulted in the death of one school child and the injury of others.

Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded to the report of a vehicle accident that took place at the corner of Twelfth Avenue and Second Street.

The call to DEMS was made at approximately 7.47am.

“The accident involved two light motor vehicles,” said Mr William Ntladi, the district manager media liaison of Emergency Services.

“A taxi with two occupants and an X5 BMW with three occupants were found to be involved in the collision. The male drive of the taxi sustained serious injuries but he was stable. The female passenger, who was a scholar in Alexandra township, unfortunately was declared dead on-scene. In the second vehicle, all three occupants sustained minor injuries.” said Mr Ntladi.

“Those injured were transported to the Edenvale Hospital,” he said.

According to Mrs Linda McKenzie, the chairperson of the Edenvale Community Police Forum (ECPF), the taxi driver involved in the accident was breathalysed at the scene shortly after the crash. He was then taken to a nearby hospital where further blood tests were drawn.
