Happy mom, happy family

Mother’s Day may be over but that doesn’t mean an end to rest and time off for moms.

While moms spend all day working and then go home to another set of demanding challenges, they should remember to take time for themselves and relax, after all a happy mother means a happy family.

Ask for help

Happy mothers are not afraid to ask for help from family and friends. While some moms miss those weekend getaways and movie nights with their husbands because they can’t find someone to babysit the kids, but a happy mom is one that has learnt to just say “please”.

Get some rest

Being sleep-deprived may be a badge of honour for those with young babies, but the sooner you can figure out how to get your eight hours back, the happier you will be. Follow that well-deserved rest with a bowl of oatmeal and a banana instead of three cups of coffee.

Make time for the girls

Happy moms have close friends. Knowing that others are in the trenches with you is key. They are there to talk to about the very serious issues and the silliest of topics. Loneliness, isolation, and the stress of having no one to call on when you need help are major happiness busters, and good friends are the cure.

Finding pleasure in little things

It’s true that turning small routines into soothing, pleasurable rituals (like a morning cup of tea or a relaxing bubble bath), helps structure life and leaves moms feeling calmer and more peaceful.

Savour the moment

One way to nourish positive emotions is to take a moment to appreciate, well, the moment. Just map out two- or three-minute activities that will make your day better and make you feel better about yourself.

In the morning, for instance, instead of trying to do 10 things, take your cup of coffee to the window and sip it while your child watches a video.

Notice what’s going on. Will it change your life? No, but you’ll probably feel calmer.
