24-year-old bowler, Tracy-Lee Botha of the Bedfordview CC, Johannesburg Bowling Association, won gold by beating the 2009 champion Susan Nel 21-15.

Botha secured her third victory in five years at the Warwick Bowls South Africa Masters Singles Championships at the Wanderers Club on February 15 and 16.

Botha is one of four bowlers named in the South African squad for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Bowls SA president, Allan Freeman, said he was pleased with the form shown by the national squad. “South Africa’s lawn bowls Proteas topped the medals table at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, and one can expect more of the same in this year’s event,” said Freeman.

Our 2014 bowls team will be world class. The high standard of international bowls means most encounters will be hard-fought, but I confidently predict Glasgow gold,” said Freeman.
