Community’s goodwill benefits Thembalami

The Thembalami Care Centre is reaping the benefits of the community’s goodwill.

Late last year, a request was made for donations of shade cloth to repair the greenhouse at the Rand Aid Association-run care centre. Most of the greenhouse’s roof was missing and the nursery supervisor, Mr Ken Lewis, was battling.

Within days of an article being published, Thembalami received a number of donations. The structure was repaired before the end of the year.

“We have discovered over and over how many kind-hearted citizens there are, always ready to fill a need where they can,” said Thembalami head, Ms Elize Raath.

The care centre caters to people who are physically, mentally or financially vulnerable.

Ms Cynthia Boekholt from Kew, Mr Neville Rowse from Sandringham, Mr Brian Havenga from Lombardy, Mr Brian Quigley from Inyoni Creek, Dr Des Sonnenfeld and Ms Felicity Borland of Inyoni Creek retirement village were thanked for their help and donations.

“Ms Borland has really taken Mr Lewis under her wing and has even facilitated a table for him at the retirement village’s morning markets so that he can sell his plants to generate further funds for the nursery,” said Ms Raath.
