Shape up with the X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge

Want to get fit and in-shape after over-indulging during the festive season?

The X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge is just what you need.

The race comprises three disciplines, swimming, cycling and running. Competitors can choose to do their cycle discipline on the road or off-road.

Each race consists of a 600 metre swim, 20 kilometre cycle or 16 kilometre mountain bike stage and a five kilometre run.

The first race of the year takes place at Herron Banks, in Vanderbijlpark, on February 2. The action then moves to Roodeplaat Dam on March 2, with the final event of the challenge taking place at Buffelspoort Dam on March 30.

Participants can enter individually or in a two-member team. Both team members are required to complete all three disciplines and finish within two minutes of each other to be eligible for a placing.

The X-Dirt Triathlon Challenge includes a children’s race, which takes place prior to the main event.

For safety, and to keep it fun, children’s stamina will only be tested over a short swim, mountain bike and run distances starting at 8am on race days. The main event, for junior (16-19), open and senior division athletes, will start at 9am.
