Be vigilant when carrying cash

The Jeppe SAPS urges all pupils and parents to be vigilant when carrying cash.

“With schools having opened last week, pupils and parents will be carrying cash to pay for school fees and registrations. We are aware that some parents give their children money to pay at schools, especially the little ones who are attending primary schools.

“Students at universities and colleges are also carrying large amounts of cash to pay for registrations. It is advisable that they use banks to pay the school and registration fees. However, also be aware of criminals who are prowling around the banks as well,” said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer.

He urged people not to let anyone assist them even if they are in a bank. “Rather go to the tellers. Some of the criminals may appear to be smart people in suits looking genuine and innocent. They may try to convince you that they work for the bank,” he said.

If you suspect someone is acting suspiciously, call 10111 or the Jeppe SAPS on 011 624-6000.
