69ers thump Dream Killers

The Bedfordview Last Man Standing (LMS) tournament proceeded into the new year with the 69ers beating the Dream Killers by 63 runs at the Jeppe Quondam Club on Saturday, January 4.

Errol Mclean was the umpire of the match which started at 8am.

The 69ers batted first and their the highest runs were scored by Michael Pretorius, who scored 33 runs from 22 balls. Ernest Du Toit and Willem van Niekerk both scored 27 runs.

The 69ers ended their batting after having made 141 runs for the loss of six wickets after 20 overs.

The Dream Killers were off to a good start, with Malcolm Gower making 32 runs from 17 balls before being run out. The Dream Killers’ runs took a slump when Riaan Pienaar, Gideon Hoffmann and Jason Donohue each only made two runs and Peter Wessels was bowled for a duck. Andre Berry came in and scored 21 runs from eight balls.

This was not, however, enough as the Dream Killers were all out for only 78 runs after 13 overs.

Nicky Smith, of the 69ners, took three wickets, the highest haul in the game.

Andre Schultz, the captain of the Dream Killers said, “We had tough time at the beginning of the season went we through a bit of slump. We have been bowling and fielding very well, however we have been struggling in terms of getting the runs. I think sometimes the pressure gets to the guys, forcing them to go for a big score. It is the Dream Killers’ first season in the LMS tournament, so give us some time and we will be force to be reckoned with. We can only get better.”>
