Krejcir bail denied – again

Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir's appeal against the ruling denying him bail was rejected by Judge Leonie Windell on Thursday, January 9, at the South Gauteng High Court.

Kejcir’s original bail application was denied at the Palm Ridge Regional Court on December 13.

Judge Windell was satisfied with Magistrate Reginald Dama’s decision to deny Krejcir bail in December and made it a point that Krejcir’s previous behaviour of fleeing countries to evade trial was a major factor in denying him bail. According to the judge, the current circumstances Krejcir finds himself in, in which he claims people are trying to kill him, are similar to the circumstances which led to him fleeing other countries.

Krejcir was denied bail at the Palm Ridge Regional Court while his three co-applicants, Desai Lupondo and suspended Organised Crime Unit Warrant Officers Samuel Modise Maropeng and George Jeff Nthoroane, were successful.

Lupondo was released on bail of R10 000, while the two SAPS officers were granted bail of R5 000 each. The four applied for bail after they were charged with kidnapping and assault in connection with a R24-million crystal meth deal gone wrong. Krejcir and his legal team intend on appealing to the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.

The Supreme Court ruling was unknown at the time of going to print.
