Attempts to kill cop and O’Sullivan foiled

The assassination of a senior police officer and a private forensic investigator linked to the investigation of Czech fugitive Radovan Krejcir was prevented on Thursday, January 10.

Police officers stormed the Rivonia Road Lodge hotel in Sandton just hours before three people were to allegedly gun down Colonel Nkosana Ximba and Mr Paul O’Sullivan.

National Spokesperson for the SAPS, Lieutenant General Makgale said, “Police have arrested three suspects in an intelligence-driven operation. The suspects were allegedly plotting to kill a police investigator associated with the Radovan Krejcir investigation and a civilian. The three suspects are two men aged 32 and 33 and a woman aged 23. One of the men arrested was sought in connection with the kidnapping and attempted murder case, which Krejcir is currently being investigated for.”

“The arrest came after members of the special task team investigating the Krejcir case followed up on information and arrested one of the suspects in a restaurant in Sandton around midday. The remaining two suspects were arrested at a hotel in Sandton just before 5pm. All three suspects are expected to be charged with conspiracy to commit murder, theft and the possession of stolen vehicle,” said Lt Gen Makgale.

Police also recovered firearms, police-issue blue lights and a siren. They also confiscated three vehicles, a BMW X6, a Nissan panel van and a Toyota Fortuner during the operation.

“This is a major breakthrough for the SAPS and will definitely further tighten our case against Radovan Krejcir. The SAPS would like to thank the public and members of the community for their assistance, and the investigation team for the sterling work done,” said Lt Gen Makgale. The suspects are to appear in the Alexander Magistrate’s Court soon.

Earlier on the same day, Judge Leonie Windell denied Krejcir bail at the South Gauteng High Court. Krejcir had appealed a December ruling by a Palm Ridge magistrate, who refused him bail in the case in which he stands accused of kidnapping and attempted murder.
