Over 1 000 participate in Charity Hat Walk

Balwin properties, in conjunction with the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum, held a Christmas charity hat walk at the Jeppe Quondom Club on Sunday, November 24.

The event, hosted by Jeppe Athletics, was started 11 years ago was aimed at giving back this year. The walk saw about 1 600 people and about 200 dogs participate.

The run and walk started at 7am and was a two-part race of 5km and 8km. Five charities were the beneficiaries this year, the Theo Jackson Scholarship fund, which educates orphans and underprivileged boys at Jeppe High School for Boys, the Lambano Orphanage, the East Rand Hospice, The Pink Drive, Puppy & Kitty Haven and Col Rowland Old Age Home for the Deaf.

The event, supported by the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, included a Father Christmas, who hand out sweets to the children.
