St Andrew’s girls rowing team named Gauteng champions

Sixteen schools from around Gauteng, with 800 rowers, competed in 146 races over the three days in the Gauteng Rowing Schools Championships.

St Andrew’s School for Girls rowing team has been named the Top Girls’ Rowing School in the Gauteng Rowing Schools’ Championships held from November 1 to 3 at Roodeplaat Dam.

Sixteen schools from around Gauteng, with 800 rowers, competed in 146 races over the three days.

The first quad gold medalist Georgia Watson, Tannith Johnson, Ivy Ma, Courtney Westley and Thandolwethu Makhaza.

Almost all races required rowers to qualify in various heats for a place in the final divisions of each event.

The medalists from St Andrew’s were Hannah Roetger (u-14), Taniel Stroud (u-15) and Zoe Batoulas (u-16).

Open medallists were Courtney Westley and Tannith Johnson.

The overall points for the girls’ rowing schools were Holy Rosary School with 220 points in fourth place, St Stithians Girls College with 305 points in third, St Mary’s School with 350 points in second and first place went to St Andrew’s with 467 points.
