Jeppe High boys walk away with nine medals

The boys came third in the team placing and walked away with nine medals.

Jeppe Boys participated in the Gauteng Schools Rowing Championships on November 2 to 4 at the Roodeplaat Dam.

The boys came third in the team placing and walked away with nine medals.

The third place meant that they were the top government school in the final team standings. The nine medals were one gold, four silver and four bronze.

It was their best performance at the championships for many years.

The u-14 single silver winner Mandla Green.

The gold medal was won by the team captain, Sebastian Prince, in the under-19 single sculls.

He was also part of the crew that took silver in the under-19 coxed four.

Prince represented South Africa in the coxed four at the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic earlier in the year.

They came third in the B final and ninth overall.

The u-19 coxed four; Sebastian Prince, Dameon Westley, Cameron Correia de Araujo, Jaydin Crickmore and Zain Saeed.

The silver medals were won by:

• The under-19 coxed four; Sebastian Prince, Dameon Westley, Cameron Correia de Araujo, Jaydin Crickmore and Zain Saeed.

• The under-16 coxed four; Nicholas Bonthuys, Phoenix-Q Griessel, Aidan Buck, Liam McCourt and Cuan Thomson.

• The under-15 doubles; Kegan Kirkland and Reece Arran.

• The under-14 single scull Mandla Green.

• Under-15 Octuple Devon Lacy, Darian Ferreira, Joshua Gillespie, Zenith-B Griessel, Jeb Molteno, Mandla Green, Ryan Deane, Luca Correia and Dustin Pierdica.

Of the 20 events entered by the school, Jeppe progressed to the A finals in 19 events.

In the under-19 four, under-16 single sculls; under-15 four, and under-15 double there was more than one Jeppe boat in the A final.

There were 24 Jeppe crews that raced in A finals.
