Edenvale High crowned Girls School League champs
There are 147 teams currently participating in the JVW Girls School League, with over 3 000 girls playing competitive football at school.
Edenvale High School was crowned league champions at the 2017 JVW Girls School League Awards event on November 10.
The JVW Girls School League has now completed its sixth successful year, with 147 teams currently participating and over 3 000 girls actively playing competitive football at school.

The league was formed in 2012 to raise the standard of girls’ football at school level, with the aim of bridging the gap between school and club standards.
Through the schools league, players are identified for national, Sasol League and LFA club teams.
Coaches and referees also have opportunities to attend coaching and refereeing courses to further their knowledge of the game.

The awards ceremony, which is held a couple of weeks after the playoffs, aims to put the spotlight on top performers.
This year’s event wouldn’t have been complete without the presence of the founder of the programme, Janine van Wyk, and project manager Lauren Duncan.
Other guests of honour included Banyana and JVW FC midfielder Nompumelelo Nyandeni, Banyana and JVW FC goalkeeper Yolula Tsawe, Basetsana and JVW FC midfielder Gabriela Salgado, and former JVW Stars and TUT women’s soccer team midfielder Mmabatho Dire.
The league thanked Lizah Rubisane and Ekurhuleni Sports and Recreation for their continued support of the programme and their contribution towards the awards event.
