Jeppe Boys weekend of victory

KENSINGTON – The team is the only team in the history of the competition to win the trophy three years in a row.

 

The Southern Gauteng Hockey Association hosted three hockey tournaments, Aitken, Boden and Alan Monk tournaments from the 12 to 14 May.

Jeppe High School for Boys were victorious in all three age group tournaments. The school’s first hockey team retained the Aitken title which they won in 2015 and 2016. The team is the only team in the history of the competition to win the trophy three years in a row. They beat St Benedict’s College 3–2 in the final after overcoming Beaulieu, King Edwards, St Johns, Fourways and Noordheuwel on the way.

Currently, the team is ranked the top school in Johannesburg and 13th in the country.

The U16A team won the prestigious Alan Monk trophy in the tournament hosted by Parktown Boys High School. The boys played well beating St David’s 3–0 in the final. They had wins against Noordheuwel, Parktown and King Edwards and drew against St Stithians.

The U15A team competed for the Boden Trophy and was the most impressive of Jeppe’s three teams. The U15s did not concede a goal throughout the tournament and beat their local rivals King Edwards comprehensively, 5–0 in the final. They also had wins against Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel, St John’s, St Benedict’s and Parktown along the way.

Jeppe High School for Boys administrator, Athly Jarvis said, “The hockey teams of Jeppe High School for Boys have proved that the hard work and dedication of all those involved has definitely paid off. Their philosophy of attacking, fast and fun hockey has won them many admirers both on and off the field.”
