Jeppe girls excel in soccer

Kensington – Jeppe Girls soccer teams perform brilliantly in the school soccer league.

Jeppe High School for Girls had a super successful soccer season.

For the first time in the school’s history, three of their teams participated in the prestigious Janine van Wyk Girls High School League.

Two U15 teams were entered into two different streams of the league and neither lost a match throughout the pool games, playing soccer of a very high standard. Both teams finished top of their streams and played in the league playoffs at the Germiston sports grounds.

The U15B team lost their quarter-final match. The U15A team, managed by Dirk Bloem, reached the league final and had a convincing 3–0 win over Hoërskool Vorentoe. The team was awarded the Sports Team of the Month award at the school’s third-term final assembly.

Jeppe’s first team also enjoyed an excellent unbeaten run into the playoffs, defeating Waverley Girls and Pretoria High School for Girls in the quarter and semi-final respectively. They played Hoërskool Vorentoe in the final in a closely contested game, which the Jeppe girls lost in a penalty shootout.

All three Jeppe teams attended the league’s prizegiving in Kempton Park where they received trophies for winning their pool games. The U15A team were also presented with the winner’s trophy for their age group and with gold medals. The first team was presented with silver medals.

Lindokuhle Sukazi, the captain of the first team who scored 29 goals in 13 games in the season, was selected as one of the top 11 players in the league.
