St Benedict’s swimmers bring home gold medals

The school congratulated the swimmers who qualified for the competitions and recorded outstanding achievements.

St Benedict’s swimmers competed at various SSA Regionals, Nationals and International galas during March and April.

The school congratulated the swimmers who qualified for various competitions and recorded outstanding achievements.

They are:

  •  Senior Nationals/Olympic trials in Durban – Riccardo di Domenico and Anandt Van Rensburg.
  •  Level 3 Nationals Port Elizabeth – Keegan Wood, Riccardo di Domenico (one gold, two silvers and a bronze), Enrico Giuricich, Andrew Smith (finals), Anandt Van Rensburg (one silver and two bronze).
  •  Level 2 Regionals at Ellis Park – Lebone Taukobong took two gold medals and one bronze medal for the 50m freestyle and butterfly, and the 100m butterfly respectively. Other achievers were Trent Graham and James Dhooge.
  •  Level 1 Regionals in Germiston – Eadin Layzell (finals).

Lebone Taukobong was also selected to represent South Africa at the CANA Swimming Championships held in Mauritius, where he achieved one gold medal as a part of the 200m medley relay team and a silver medal as a part of the 4x50m freestyle relay.

He placed fifth and eighth overall for 50m butterfly and freestyle events.
