Local swimmers excel at gala

Two galas are held early in the season from which the top eight times are selected, in each age group and event.

Jody Copeland, from Aquatic Academy in Edenvale, recently competed at the ESP Novice Prestige Gala.

He won a bronze medal for the butterfly event in the U/10 age group and a silver medal in the backstroke.

ESP Kempton Aquatics holds a series of galas for non-Swim South Africa registered swimmers. These events help to raise funds for league swimmers.

Two galas are held early in the season, from which the top eight times are selected in each age group and event.

These selected swimmers then compete for medals in the prestige event, which is always held at the end of the season.

12 swimmers from the Aquatic Academy participated in the prestige event.

Matthew Greenfield won three gold medals and one silver medal.

Keagan Pretorius won two bronze medals.

Jared Wade won a silver medal and a bronze medal.

In the girls’ events, Mikayla Pon won two silver medals and Lana James won three silver medals.

Other qualifiers were Kirsten Swartz, Zoe Stock, Phoebe Roberts, Kyle North and Zachery Scott.
