Bennies thumps St John’s

St Benedict's College hosted St John's College on April 11 for a full programme of rugby fixtures.

St Benedict’s won three of the five main games.

Bennies U/15A and 2nd XV teams won their games comfortably by spreading the ball to the wings at every opportunity.

The eagerly-awaited 1st XV game began just after midday, in front of a packed house.

The Bennies first team carried on from the previous two teams’ efforts by launching their back-line at St John’s.

The local team must, arguably, have one of the quickest back lines in school boy rugby at the moment.

At the break, St Benedict’s College led 22-10. St Benedict’s showed good handling skills and powered their way through tackles.

St John’s however, when they had the ball, kept the ball with the forwards and tried to find a way through the defence but were met with stern resistance.

Bennies’ pacey left winger, Shingirai Hlanguyo, was certainly the man of the match as he ran in a hat-trick of tries for the home side to earn a well-deserved 39 points to 10 victory.
