Mary Slack receives lifetime Equus Award
Jockeys, trainers and breeders were awarded for their efforts during the somewhat different season.
One of the horse racing fraternity prominent figures, Mary Slack, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award, while Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein were voted outstanding SA Breeders.
The track season for the 2019/20 was concluded with the virtual Equus Awards which were held on September 13.
Jockeys, trainers and breeders were awarded for their efforts during the somewhat different season.
Summer Pudding was crowned South African Horse Of The Year. Summer Pudding earned around R1 413 500-million, excluding her Tiara bonus, and proved to be the darling of the SA racing public in a testing season and was also awarded the champion three-year-old Filly title.

Tempting Fate, from The Avontuur Stables, was crowned champion two-year-old Colt, while Var’s smashing daughter, Anything Goes, received the two-year-old mare award.
Klawervlei were crowned Champion Breeders, with their supremo John Koster dedicating the award to all of his fellow winners.

• Champion Sprinter: Russet Air (What A Winter)
• Champion Miler: Vardy (Var)
• Champion Middle Distance:Got The Greenlight (Gimmethegreenlight)
• Champion Stallion: Silvano
• Champion Breeder: Klawervlei Stud
• Champion Broodmare: Halfway To Heaven (Mary Slack and Jessica Jell)
• Outstanding South African Breeder Award: Wilgerbosdrift and Mauritzfontein
• Lifetime Achievement Award: Mary Slack
• Champion Apprentice: Luke Ferraris
• Champion Jockey: Warren Kennedy
• Champion Trainer: Sean Tarry
• Champion Owner: Chris van Niekerk
