Young tennis player takes to the court in Cape Town

It was a very successful year for van der Merwe, a Dunvegan Primary School learner.

Tristan van der Merwe of Dunvegan-based Merrylyn Tennis Club took to the court when he competed in two Growthpoint Super 8 tournaments recently.

The tournaments were held in Cape Town during the December school holidays.

The first tournament was the Boland Super 8, which started on December 11.

Van der Merwe came second in the singles round-robin format, where he lost against his doubles partner, Cooper Western.

Van der Merwe and Western took the doubles title against Oberhofer/Von Maltit with a 4-3 score in the finals.

The second tournament was the Growthpoint Cape Town Super 8, which started on December 17.

It was played in round-robin format again with two groups.

Van der Merwe came first in his group and in the play-off lost again to Western.

Van der Merwe and Western took the doubles title against Els/Robb with a score of 7-4.

Coach Jean de Villiers said it was a very successful year for van der Merwe, a Dunvegan Primary School learner.
