JVW crowned 2019 Sasol League National Champions

JVW represented Gauteng in the 2019 Sasol League National Championship.

JVW Football Club (JVW FC) was crowned 2019 champions in the Sasol League National Championships on December 8.

JVW beat Limpopo’s Ma Indies 2-0 in the final at Tsakane Stadium in Ekurhuleni.

Gabriel Salgado and Nicole Irwin scored first half goals, securing JVW the win, which included R200 000 prize money and a spot in the 2020 SAFA Women’s National League.

Yolula Tsawe won Goalkeeper of the Tournament after conceding the least number of goals for JVW.

“We are very happy for this title and I want to congratulate my players for their display of passion, hunger and resilience. I believe that is what won us this match, the eagerness that the players had to qualify for the SAFA Women’s National League,” said Ciara Picco, head coach of JVW FC.

Silver medallists Ma-Indies walked away with R100 000 and a spot in the National Women’s League.

Ma-Indies captain and Banyana Banyana left back Lebogang Ramalepe was also named Player of the Tournament.

Sunflower WFC’s Banele Madondo was named Young Player of the Tournament while Neliswa Luthuli walked away with Top Goal Scorer of the Tournament with 13 goals.

JVW last qualified for the Sasol League National Championship in 2016 and lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic during the finals.

The club qualified this year by winning the Gauteng Sasol League by 10 points.

Gauteng’s JVW was joined by KwaZulu-Natal’s Sunflowers, Limpopo’s Ma Indies, Western Cape’s Vasco D Gama, Mpumalanga’s Nkomasi Ladies, North West’s Royal Queens, Northern Cape’s Royal Wizards, Free State’s Ixias and Eastern Cape’s Executive Ladies.

The tournament took place from 3 to 8 December 2019 and is the 11th edition of the tournament.
