Eagles soar into the finals

The Eagles have been doing well in the series as they were placed in second place with 22 points, eight wins and two losses.

Diesel Electric Services Eagles have secured their place in the finals of the 2019 SuperSport Wheelchair Basketball Series finals on October 19.

The Eagles secured their place when they beat the Pretoria Wolverines 66-33 at Mandeville Indoor Sports Centre in Bez Valley, putting them in the finals, which will take place on October 26.

The Eagles will be facing Kirloskar Lions in the gold play-offs.

The Eagles were uncertain when they started the game as they had previously lost to the Wolverines, but the first quarter points built their confidence and they found their form and carried it throughout the game.

They scored 18 points in the first quarter and 19 points in the second quarter leading to a half-time score of 37-15.

By second half it was very clear who was dominating the game and the Wolverines were just trying to catch up to the Eagles, but they were already soaring high on the scoreboard.

The game ended with a well-deserved victory to the Eagles with a score of 66-33.

The man of the match award went to Eagles’ player Jack Mokgotsi, who scored a total of 22 points.

Eagles’coach Anele Kledi said he is proud of the team.

“I am happy and proud that we got through to the finals. We have worked hard as a team and it has paid off,” said Kledi.

He said now their focus will be on winning the finals.

“We have started putting in extra effort as we prepare for the final game of the season. We will have an extra practice session on Wednesday instead of just Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“The team has been proving themselves throughout the series, it would be wonderful to win the series,” said Kledi.

Eagles’ team manager Fred Ganyaupfu said he is proud of the team’s performance in the series.

“We have worked hard as a team and we are proud to be through to the finals. This means a lot to us and the fans who have been supporting us throughout the series. We really appreciate the support because it also boost us as a team to keep pushing,” said Ganyaupfu.
