Scout Simon Kleer also met up with family in Washington while on his trip to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in USA.

Scout Simon Kleer from the 1st Bedfordview Scout Troop participated in the 24th World Scout Jamboree in the USA from July 14 to August 4.

Simon visited New York and stayed at the Alpine Scout Camp in New Jersey. He then visited Washington where he attended the World Scout Jamboree.

He said the jamboree took place in the Summit Bechtal Reserve located in West Virginia.

Simon said the South African contingent participated on stage at the opening ceremony along with Lebo M.

“On stage we all felt very proud to be South Africans,” said Simon.

At the jamboree, Simon said he went white water rafting, climbed up Mount Jack and participated in activities such a pistol shooting and archery.

“I really enjoyed mixing with so many people and learning about different cultures from all over the world.

This was a life changing experience, and I am so privileged to have been given the opportunity to attend the World Jamboree,”said Simon.

Simon said all scouts should be given the opportunity to attend the jamboree.

“I met the most amazing people from different parts of the world, some of them I am sure will be my friends for many years to come,” said Simon.
