Queens High learner selected for Gauteng cricket team

I would love to play for South African U19 at the end of this year as well as the Proteas someday,” said Busi

Queens High School learner Busi Nkosi is making a name for herself in the male-dominated world of cricket.

The 18-year-old has just been selected for the Central Gauteng Lions u-19A team.

She is humbled by her achievement and proud that her hard work and dedication is being noticed.

“It has not been an easy journey. My passion for the sport has always driven me to be better,” said Busi.

This is not the first time the cricketer has been selected for the Central Gauteng Lions.

In 2014 she made the Central Gauteng Lions u-13A team, in 2015 she made the Central Gauteng Lions u-16B team, in 2016 she made the Central Gauteng Lions u-16A team and again in 2017, at the age of 16, she made the Central Gauteng Lions u-19A team.

Busi’s cricket journey began at the age the age of 12 when she decided to tag along to a training session with her cousin.

“That was also the start of my journey. I have played other sporting codes for fun and in compulsory life orientation sports lessons at school, but I have never officially played or joined any sport other than cricket,” said Busi, who dreams of becoming a professional cricket player.

“I don’t have a favourite SA cricket player, but I learn from each and every player. I had the privilege to meet a few of the South African women’s players and have been coached by them,” said Busi.

Her most memorable highlight of her journey in cricket was her first cricket match.

“I was in a boys’ team. I certainly exceeded my own expectations. My second most memorable moment was when I scored my half-century at u-13 level,” said Busi.

Her biggest supporters are her mother and friends.

“Their support is all it takes for me to just go to training and push to do well,” said Busi.
