Cotterell takes to the track

Reddam House Bedfordview learner Caleb Cotterell recently competed in the Rotax Max Challenge National Karting Challenge, where he placed third overall in his age group.

Round two of the championships were held in Port Elizabeth over Easter weekend and saw 10-year-old Cotterell qualify 11th in the micro max category.

“With the rainfall making the conditions more difficult for the home track racers, Cotterrel had an underdog achievement in the second heat by making his way to first place,” said his mom, Heather Cotterell.

Cotterell received his first kart on his seventh birthday, during his three years of kart racing this is his first year racing a national championship.

Round one was held in Cape Town, round two was held in Port Elizabeth with round three to be held in July in Durban.

The final race will be held in September at Zwartkops Raceway.

Like other racers, Cotterell is competing for a ticket to the karting world grand finals to be held in Italy during October.

The international will see approximately 360 racers from 60 countries take to the track.
