Panthers take to the field for face-off

"We just have to gel together now as a team, once we do that we will be unstoppable."

The first and second teams of Panthers Rugby Club took to the field, facing off against Germiston Simmers and East Rand Police rugby clubs.

The matches played on April 27 at the Panthers’ home grounds saw the teams give it their best as they took on their opponents.

Despite having the lead in the first half of the game, Edenvale’s second team lost 36-24.

Panthers coach Gideon de Bruyn said some of the second team players needed to be benched for the first team game that followed.

Shortly after the second team game, the first team, donned in their new kit, took to the field to face off against East Rand police.

De Bruyn explained recently Urban Spoon, AJC Plumbing, BP Greenstone, ARM Electrical partnered with the club and started sponsoring its teams.

Panthers Rugby Club thanked Urban Spoon, AJC Plumbing, BP Greenstone and ARM Electrical for the support and sponsorship.

“We lost 29-28 against East Rand police, but managed to get two points on the log,” said De Bruyn.

He said it has been difficult to build the club with new players every year.

“The team we have now is a young team, so hopefully we can build them up so we can have a winning team,” said De Bruyn

“I have to say, for a new young team like mine we are really not doing bad at all.

“We just have to gel together now as a team, once we do that we will be unstoppable.”

De Bruyn is confident the teams will continue to grow and improve as the season continues.

He thanked AJC Plumbing, BP Greenstone and ARM Electrical for their ongoing support.
