Joburg Cricket Club fights to stay alive in 50-over competition

Old Parks put JCC under the pump in 50-over competition.

Fighting to keep their hopes alive in the 2018/19 GCB Limited Overs (50 overs) Premier B competition, Joburg Cricket Club (JCC) hosted Old Parktonians Cricket Club (Old Parks) at Hope Village in Bertrams on November 25.

The visiting Old Parks side won the toss and decided to bat first before racing to 187 for six in a rain-reduced 36 overs a side match. Neal van Heerden top scored with 44 runs for the visitors, while JCC’s Siyabonga Peter made the most of the bowling conditions to grab two wickets for 46 runs.

Rain put play on hold after 34 overs, which saw the match umpires call a reduction in the number of overs for the match. After the rain interruption, Old Parks batted out their remaining two overs before JCC took to the field for the reply.

“It just comes down to the application of our batting. We haven’t been able to spend as much time at the wicket and have as much impact on taking wickets as well,” said JCC Premier B captain Pranaav Naidoo on his side’s loss.

“If we can get down a couple of solid partnerships and be able to bat out our overs, we can be a more difficult side to beat. We will, however, work on these areas throughout the break and early on in the new year so that we can be better.”
