Corporate Cricket Match not going ahead this November

Joburg Cricket Club's annual cricketing showpiece is postponed to February.

The annual Corporate Cricket Match, which is a hallmark cricketing fund-raising event for the Joburg Cricket Club (JCC) in Bertrams, will not be going ahead as planned.

Corporate sponsorship is stifled according to chairperson and co-founder of the club Indarin Govender.

A secondary factor that Govender said restricts the event from being hosted this year is the unavailability of all representatives from the respective sponsors.

“Having it this November proved to be extremely difficult due to the constraints that corporates are experiencing, given the economic strain the country is under at the moment,” said Govender, giving assurance, however, that the event will go ahead in February next year.

“It’s an event that we’re endeared to. The response from corporate South Africa in the past has been beautiful, and as such, the event will continue.”

JCC is the sole beneficiary of the proceeds that are raised from the event, which Govender said goes towards the upkeep of the grounds at the facility.

“It is a key funding imperative for the organisation to have a successful corporate day.

“It is also very important for the inner city, where corporate leaders show their commitment to inner-city regeneration and the good and positive work that is happening amid the difficulties.”

Govender said the Corporate Cricket Match is scheduled for February each year on a long-term basis.
