Italian Club plays host to Friendship Cup in Bedfordview

The tournament was delighted to have the Bidvest Wits Academy U17 team play this year and were victors in the U19 group.

The Italian Club Johannesburg, based in Bedfordview hosted The Friendship Cup on September 22 and 23.

The Friendship Cup is a collaboration between KwaZulu-Natal High Schools Football Association (KZNHSFA) and Olympia FC.

In its second year running, the weekend saw u-15, u-17 and u-19 teams from KZNHSFA, Olympia FC, Benoni High School, Benfica FC, Parktown Boys High School, Jeppe High School for Boys, Bonaero FC and Easterns LFA.

The tournament was delighted to have the Bidvest Wits Academy u-17 team play this year and were victors in the u-19 group.

Bidvest Wits Academy enjoyed the tournament so much that they will bring their u-15 team to participate in next year’s Friendship Cup.

Winning teams for the Friendship Cup were u-15 KwaZulu-Natal, u-17 KwaZulu-Natal and u-19 Bidvest Wits Academy.

The individual awards were voted by spectators and coaches.

These players showed true character, sportsmanship and skill during the tournament.

Best Midfielder went to Storm Jonas from Wits, while best defenders went to Quinson Kapowezha from Wits and Zusiphe Guarisa from KwaZulu-Natal.

The Golden Gloves award went to Jason Lundie from Jeppe and Immanuel Mothwa from Benfica FC.

Golden Boot went to Alexander Vermeulen from KZN and Best Coach went Bronson April from Benfica FC.

The event was a great platform to see upcoming youth display their talent on the soccer field.
