Linksfield institute excels in sports

BSI student Saul Moss was awarded his Golf RSA colours with the selection for the Golf RSA Junior Team for the Challenge Cup.

High School learners at the Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) continue to excel in their chosen sports.

The institution based in Linksfield, Johannesburg, boasts South African national junior squad members in three different sports, with a number of international learners who also represent their countries.

Tennis player Dylan Salton has had a tremendous run in the junior tennis circuit, rising to thrid in the national u-16 combined rankings.

“His results this year include three doubles victories, one singles victory, and two singles runner-up finishes. He was also chosen to represent South Africa at the African Junior Championships in Tunisia last month,” said the institute’s managing director Michael Balderstone.

Soccer player Bryn Deeley has been retained in the latest SA Football Association’s national u-17 squad despite the Black Aces player suffering an injury setback over the last few months.

“Our early morning physical energising sessions before class have been helping his recovery,” said Balderstone.

“Golfer Yurav Premlall has also been in tremendous form on the junior and open amateur golf circuits since joining BSI in January. He is the number one ranked u-15 in South Africa, the 14th ranked u-19, and has risen to 30th in the overall national amateur rankings. His form has been rewarded with the selection for the Golf RSA national squad, and the Golf RSA Junior Team competing in the Challenge Cup,” he said.

Fellow BSI student Saul Moss was also awarded his Golf RSA colours with selection for the Golf RSA Junior Team for the Challenge Cup. Saul has risen to 15th in the u-19 national rankings. Meanwhile, international learner Titouan Berny finished 5th in the Audi World Amateur, a world ranking golf event played in Reunion Island.

In team competitions, Team BSI won the Pirie Cup in the Pecanwood College Golf Championship in March. The four-man team of Brendan Porter, Saul Moss, Emerson Bam and Jacques van der Merwe ensured a successful defence of the title won last year. Brendan Porter also took the honours in the individual event for the second year in a row.

BSI is hosting an open evening on June 13 for parents and learners who wish to find out more information.
