Over 1 100 runners attend Gillooly’s Parkrun

“Parkruns give community members the opportunity to exercise in a safe environment with friends.” The Gillooly’s Parkrun has been a success since it started.

The Gillooly’s Parkrun celebrated its second birthday on April 21 at Gillooly’s Farm.

The event attracted 1 161 runners.

Runners and walkers were encouraged to wear tutus and hats to celebrate the special occasion.

Meg McDonald, run director of the event, said the Gillooly’s Parkrun has been a success since it started.

“Parkruns give community members the opportunity to exercise in a safe environment with friends,” said McDonald.

The first three men to cross the finish line were:

• Samson Teves (16:46).

• Sfiso Mbhele (16:46).

• Hopewell Nkosi (16:54).

The first three women to cross the finish line were:

• Caroline Poonan (20:11).

• Sal du Toit (23:42).

• Samantha Kahn (25:28)

The Gillooly’s Parkrun is held every Saturday morning at Gillooly’s Farm at 8am.

Entrance is free but participants must register before taking part.
