Local acrobats to represent South Africa in top event

The acrobatic gymnastics pair, Abigail Last and Miandri Fourie will represent South Africa at the acrobatic gymnastics World Age Group Competition (WAGC).

The acrobatic gymnastics pair, Abigail Last and Miandri Fourie will represent South Africa at the acrobatic gymnastics World Age Group Competition (WAGC).

The pair trains at the Edenvale-based Masters Gymnasts Club. The competition will be held in Antwerp, Belgium in early April.

The WAGC event is only held once every two years and it is the highest level of competition for acrobats in the world in this age group.

The girls will be competing in the 11 to 16 years ladies-pairs event.

Abigail and Miandri have been doing acrobatic gymnastics separately for several years, and have been the current pairing since 2017. The gymnasts have put in lots of continuous effort and time into their training in the past year, which has earned them the right to represent South Africa.

They are both coached by Yuri Demianenko and assisted at the club by Dmitry Demianenko and Michelle Sharples.

The club is based at the Highway Gardens Community Centre.

The gymnasts, who reside in Edenvale and Springs respectively, also received Federation Colours for representing the SA Gymnastics Federation.

Representing South Africa in a judging capacity at the WAGC event in Belgium will be Dmitry and Alex Demianenko, who have been internationally qualified judges for over 10 years.
