Black Aces Youth Development Academy reaps benefits of hard work

Black Aces Youth Development Academy has started to reap the benefits of its hard work.

Black Aces Youth Development Academy which is based at the Greek Sporting Club in Bedfordview has started to reap the benefits of its hard work.

Four players who have come through the Academy structures were selected to represent South Africa at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafu) u-17 tournament held in Mauritius earlier this year.

Tony Dias, the academy director, said the four boys selected were Constandino Christodoulou – a goalkeeper who now plays for the Maritzburg United MDC squad at the tender age of 15, Junior Nare – a striker in the U-15 squad which finished the season unbeaten, top of the u-15 South African Football Association (Safa) Gauteng Development League, midfielder James MacFarlane, and Bryn Deeley – a left back who represented the Aces u-17 squad that played in the u-17 Safa Gauteng Development League.

“Bryn was also selected for the u-19 Gauteng squad which participated in the national provincial u-19 tournament that was held in Cape Town in December 2016.

The Academy is also proud to announce that five other players from the academy, namely Jess Rom, Raffice Amede-Kabongo, Keegan Mitchel, Alexi Apollonatos and Bradley Cross have been promoted to the Alexandra Black Aces first team who play in the ABC Motsepe League,” said Tony.

Bradley and Alexi have already signed and the other three will continue to train with the team.

Black Aces Youth Development Academy will be hosting trials on November 25, for boys born in 2006.

“Our goalkeeper coach Alan Marcus will be hosting a free goalkeeping training and assessment weekend for goalkeepers between the ages of nine and 17,” said Tony.

Academy Coach David Thorpe will host a soccer holiday coaching clinic for children of all abilities between the ages of six and 12.

The clinic will be held during the first weekend of December.
