Akoo started his career in Mountain Rise KwaZulu Natal where he worked as a detective investigating serious and violent crimes.

“During my term in the unit I secured few convictions, mostly for aggrevated robbery and murder. In June this year I even secured a 47-year sentence for armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm with an effective sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment,” he said.

Detective Akoo said the accused was known for committing such crimes but was never prosecuted up until he took possession of the dockets.

“I secured another conviction for eight years on another prominent accused of terrorising the Bertrams jurisdiction this year. My career as a detective is about making a difference to the community,” he said.

Akoo was awarded a certificate of appreciation from Johannesburg East SAPS cluster acting commander Brigadier Azwinndini Nengovhela for his good work.
