Modderfontein Squash Club celebrate their win

To celebrate winning the Reserve League with four matches to spare, the Modderfontein Squash Club (MSC) recently organised a special function at the courts.

The win elevates the team to the Central Gauteng First League, the highest league at club level.

This is the first time the MSC will have a team in this league.

The margin of victory is one of the largest on record.

Collectively, the players won 75 matches and lost only seven.

Number one player, Sipho Ncube, scored 21 wins from 21 matches.

The team’s achievement is attributed to a lot of hard work and enthusiasm under captain Dikana Mthombeni’s leadership and mentoring.

Dikana returned to Modderfontein early this year after an extended coaching contract in Dubai.

“In addition, our third league team and our sixth league team also won their respective leagues, putting us in contention for the big prizes at the Gauteng prizegiving later this year,” said club chairman, Piet van Dongen.

Another cause for celebration was the announcement that Moneyline Financial Services has doubled its sponsorship of the MSC to R100 000 this year.

“This enabled us to fulfill our plan of running a women’s development team,” said Dongen.

“The girls from Egoli did us proud, ending as runners-up in the women’s third league and thereby earning promotion to the second league.

With Moneyline’s financial support, Modderfontein Squash Club managed to pay for Sipho Ncube’s and David Sibanda’s schooling this year,” he said.

The celebration was attended by invited VIP guests, players, club members, coaches, administrators, family and friends.
