Local dancers head to Spain

"It is incredible to fly the SA flag on international stages and show the world that South Africans are very talented."

Seventeen dancers from an Edenglen-based dance studio will represent South Africa in Spain next year.

The dancers from KeZone Dance and Fitness will compete in the Festalonia Dance Competition next year.

Owner and coach at KeZone dance, Kerryn Stow, said this is the third time that KeZone dancers will represent SA overseas.

Sixteen dancers and Stow herself were selected to represent SA after they competed in a competition in August this year.

She said she and the dance students received South African colours in the hip-hop and contemporary dance sections at the August event.

The dancers are Joshua Thatcher, Mark Rorke, Jordan Thatcher, Kerryn Stow, Megan Ahmed, Kathleen Wilson, Sarah Mullinder, Shareace Lingenfelder, Cara-Dawn Hillbrook, Lorin Buchner, Trimica Appel, Vannia Infanti, Jade Veretnik, Leira Ahmed, Tayla Swift, Nikhita Lalla and Earl Orange.

“Everyone has put in many hours of rehearsals to perform solos, duos and small groups in the hip-hop and contemporary dance sections,” said Stow.

Stow thanked everyone for their hard work and Dance Masters South Africa for hosting the competition in August.

“SA is full of talent and hard work pays off. If you have a talent you must use it and the ability to dance is a blessing,” said Stow.

For most of the dancers this will be their first time overseas.

Stow said in order to make this happen, funds need to be raised.

She appealed to community members interested in sponsoring the team to contact her on 084 589 3748.

“We appreciate any assistance in making our dance dreams become a reality. It is incredible to fly the SA flag on international stages and show the world that South Africans are very talented,” said Stow.
