Dancer swirls to the top

The Bishop Bavin learner took home gold and silver medals at the event which was held at Sun City over a five-day period.

Eleven-year-old Tatijana Ignjatov competed in numerous dance styles at the prestigious International Dance Organisation Commonwealth Dance Championships.

The Bishop Bavin learner took home gold and silver medals at the event which was held at Sun City over a five-day period.

About 1 800 dancers from five commonwealth countries took part. The countries were Australia, Canada, Gibraltar, Malaysia and South Africa.

Ignjatov won gold for her ballet solo, modern solo, jazz solo, show dance solo, modern duet and jazz duet.

She competed in the 11 – 12 age category.

Her choreographer and trainer, Hope Maimane, was thrilled with her outstanding results.

The 11-year-old choreographed her lyrical routine and won silver for this section.

At the end of the competition a gala evening was held which saw the top five achievers of each category invited to compete.

Ignjatov was invited for her modern solo.

She went on to win the overall Junior 11 – 14 category.

Ignjatov is part of the Unity SA Dance Team, which consists of 40 dancers from 15 different studios, and will be heading to the World Championships at the end of the year.
