Yurov Premlall was recently crowned the champion of the Glendower Golf Course when he won the Club Championships played on March 4 and 5.

The 13-year-old golfer, who has been playing the sport for the past 10 years, said he was the youngest competitor in the A division.
“Winning the championship feels great. I am quite ecstatic about my win,” said an excited Yurov.
While growing up, Yurov first developed an interest in the sport by watching his father play golf.
Another source of inspiration for Yurov was Tiger Woods.

“I like the way Tiger plays. He performs well under pressure,” said Yurov.
What attracted Yurov most to the sport was the amount of effort a player needed to put in to do well.
He added that the variety of shots used on the course is enjoyable.
He said up until 2012 he just enjoyed the sport.
The young golfer began to take the sport more seriously when he placed second in the boy’s U/8 division at the European Championship in Scotland in 2012.
Besides playing overseas Yurov said he also represented Ekurhuleni in the 2016 interprovincial golf tournament in 2016.
He said after playing on a number of golf courses around the country his favourite South African course is the Links at Fancourt Golf Course.
“I enjoy the challenge that particular course provides players. If you want to play well there, you have to go low,” said Yurov.
Yurov, who recently started high school at Edenvale High School, said he does not find the balance between school work and his sports too challenging.
Yurov said he makes sure to put in a lot of effort into both the sport and his schoolwork.
“I sometimes sacrifice my sleep in order to do what needs to be done,” said Yurov.
In order to compete at the level he is currently at, Yurov trains six days a week.
Before playing in the championships at Glendower, Yurov focused on his putting skills.
He said his strengths lie in keeping the ball in play on the course and making the long shots.
In April Yurov will compete in the boy’s U/9 tournament in Langebaan.
He hopes to one day compete in the PGA.
