Edenvale kickboxers chosen for nationals

"We are looking forward to seeing these champions working towards gold."

Members of Edenvale’s Xtreme Kickboxing Technologies Club recently took part in the annual provincial kickboxing trials.

The trials, which were held at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre over the weekend of February 18, allowed for clubs to compete in various kickboxing divisions.

The teams fought it out in the hopes of being selected for Gauteng’s provincial team. The selection, said chairman of Eastern Gauteng Province Kickboxing, Shihan Phillips, was conducted by a top panel of head instructors in the region.

The provincial teams will compete against each other at the SA Kickboxing Championships between April 28 and 30 in Kwazulu-Natal, and a national kickboxing team will be selected after the SA Championships, says Shihan Phillips.

“Once selected, the national team will compete at the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations World Championships,” he said.

Three fighters from Edenvale – Earl Warn, Decklan Faber and Sempei Klayton Richards – were selected to compete at the SA Championships. “We are looking forward to seeing these champions working towards gold,” said Shihan Phillips.
