JVW wins Gauteng champs title

"The opportunity is here, as we critically prepare over the next three weeks for the Sasol League National Championships."

In just four years, the Janine Van Wyk Football Club (JVW) has climbed the ladder to success.

A victory that began with a four-year plan has now materialised itself.

“An opportunistic victory. A victory that most thought was not achievable and a victory we have worked extremely hard for,” said team manager, Ms Lauren Duncan.

JVW has been crowned the 2016 Gauteng Sasol League Champions. This season, JVW was drawn in the same stream as three-times Sasol League Champions, Palace Super Falcons; defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and other top contenders, making it a difficult stream in which JVW had to work hard to secure a top spot.

Having lost and drawn one game a-piece, JVW managed to add to its history book by beating top adversaries Sundowns, Falcons and Croesus all in the same year, and remained undefeated at home in 2016. Throughout the years, and since JVW was first introduced into the Sasol League, the first team has progressively climbed up the rankings year after year. They have proved that with time, patience and continuous resilience, anything is possible and remarkably finished first in the stream ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, on goal difference.

The dream has now become even more palpable after JVW beat Tuks FC a staggering 6-0, at the final provincial playoffs held at Germiston Stadium to determine the Gauteng Champions.

“This game was a stern representation of zeal and unmistakable presence that JVW wants to showcase to the rest of the country, that we are a force to be reckoned with.

“The opportunity is here, as we critically prepare over the next three weeks for the Sasol League National Championships, which will be held in Mossel Bay from December 5 to December 11, 2016,” said Ms Duncan.

The winning team from each of the nine provinces will travel to the Western Cape to battle it out to be crowned the national champions.

“We have finally reached our goal of being crowned the Gauteng Champions and it’s an achievement we are definitely be proud of. As we step onto the next platform with an overwhelming desire to do the best that we can, our first priority is and always will be a united team working together towards a common goal. It has been a remarkable journey thus far, and I am certain that we have what it takes to get gold,” said Ms Duncan.
