School aims to create a complete footballer

"These are the most important people in our work. It is our aim to help each of them fulfil their potential."

The SuperSport United Soccer School in Modderfontein is currently playing in the annual Futsal World Cup, played between all SuperSport United Soccer Schools around Gauteng.

Age groups from six to 14 years old are playing games in the Futsal format at various centres every weekend for the next seven weeks.

The Modder Football Club chairman, Lee Carter, who is also one of the club’s coaches, said this was an exciting and fast five a-side format of football played on artificial courts. He said it brings out the best skill levels in the boys and girls.

Carter said SuperSport United Soccer Schools Modderfontein is a group of young players involved with SuperSport United Soccer Schools.

“These are the most important people in our work. It is our aim to help each of them fulfil their potential, whether that is to play league/non-league football, five-a-side with friends, weekend or club games, the SuperSport United Team, the Premier League or to play in a World Cup final. We offer the best advice on training as we work to create a complete footballer. Becoming a professional footballer is no easy task, but working together we believe that a realistic chance exists to do just that,” said Carter.

He said their main aim is to change the way that football is both coached and played.

“We desire that the game becomes more skillful, entertaining and enjoyable, both to play and watch. To do this we have to change the way the game is coached and taught to children. We believe we have made a good start in doing this already, with the introduction of the game of Futebol de Salao (FDS), the Skills Badge Challenge and the SuperSport United Soccer Schools (SSUSS) coaching programme and syllabus.”
