Local canoeists ready for Fish River Marathon

Members of the canoe club came out in their numbers to participate in the 24km race to prepare for the upcoming marathon.

Local canoeists performed well on September 11 when Victoria Lake Canoe Club’s held a flat-water canoe race on Germiston Dam.

This race was one of the the last seeding races for the Hansa Fish River Marathon.

The Fish River Marathon is an 80km race and takes place in October in the Eastern Cape.

Among the top finishers from the club were:

  •  Bedfordview resident Josh Loots in a K3 with Renier Kruger and Richard Cele finished the race in 2 hours 15 minutes,
  •  Timothy Baker, from Edenvale, with Zach Zacharopoulos and Noel Bessler finished the race in a K3, in 2 hours 25 minutes.

On the day junior canoeists also competed in the Gauteng School League race.
