Modder FC ready to take the world stage

What started out as a dream to Lee Carter is now an inspiration to others.

What started out as a dream to Lee Carter is now an inspiration to others.

Lee started his Modderfontein based soccer club, the Modder Football Club in 2012 because he felt the area needed something to keep the youngsters occupied.

“The club started with just five teams when it played its first game in 2013but since then we have grown to 14 teams. We now have some of our boys play in the Easterns leagues,” said Lee.

He said most of their players come from the Edenvale and surrounding areas.

The club has various teams from U/8 up to U/11 who play in the Eastern District League.

“We are a very small club that produces an extraordinary amount of football talent. Recently four of our sides, out of six age groups made the finals of the Eastern Local FA League (ELFA) Cup for 2016. A lot of people have told me its unheard of that such a small club can have so many teams in a final.

“Our U/11 team will be going to Spain in April 2017 to participate in the Mundioalito tournament, one of the biggest youth tournaments in the world,” said Lee.

Mundioalito tournament is open to all clubs that are affiliated to an association or federation associated with FIFA.

Modder FC also has some of their players in the Super Sport United Soccer Schools.

Lee said the players train each day of the week at the Modderforntein Sports Complex.

Five of the Modder FC teams will take part in the junior league at the end of September.
