A pro in the making

"My dreams are finally coming true."

For some, golf can be as complicated as quantum mechanics, but for others it comes naturally.

In fact, for some people all it takes is a little practice to turn this hobby into a career.

Edenvale resident, Bryandrew Roelofsz, is a 24-year-old golfer who has been playing golf since he could walk.

“I love this game with all that I have,” said Bryandrew.

He said his father had a significant impact on his golf career,

“He put a golf club in my hands from the time I could walk and I have continued playing ever since.”

Bryandrew said that as soon as he understood the game he began playing in the South African Golf Foundation (SAGF).

“My dream was to play on the main tour with Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and all the other top players.

As he grew older and grew as a sports person, Bryandrew began to play in tournaments. From there he felt confident in his sporting abilities and joined a bigger league, the IGT Pro Tour.

Bryandrew said he decided to move past amateur status, which was a good move for him because he won his second IGT tournament. He has since won six other IGT Pro Tour events.

“My dreams are finally coming true,” said Bryandrew.

At the end of 2015 he earned his Sunshine Tour Card and received full playing rights on the South African main tour for 2016.

He obtained his Sunshine Tour Card at Q-School, which ran from December 8 to 12 in Bloemfontein.

The event saw 279 golfers tee off and after five rounds of 18 holes, only the top 30 players on the leader board obtained their Sunshine Tour Cards. Bryandrew placed seventh.

Bryandrew currently wants to play on the European and PGA golf tours.

Although major golfers gave him inspiration, Bryandrew stated that he aims to surpass them in future tournaments.
