Budler continues his wining streak
Pacey fighter, Budler convinced even the international judges.
Hekkie Budler continued with his winning streak when he beat Simphiwe Khonco during their WBA/IBO Minimum Weight World Title match.
The two met at Emperors Palace on Saturday.
The international judges gave the title to Hekkie in a unanimous decision.
He won with scores of 117 to 111, 115 to 113 and 116 to 112.
The fight was scored by Jean Louis Legland from France, Juan Manuel Garcia Reyes from Spain and Leszek Jankowiak from Poland.
A fast boxer with an unshakable fighting spirit, Hekkie frustrated his opponent by throwing combinations and responding with similar moves even when attacked.
The man from Mthatha, Simphiwe could not capitalise on the cut above Hekkie’s left eye in the third round. The cut bled profusely at one time and Hekkie had to wipe it with his glove several times during the fight. The cut, however, did not deter Badler from launching his attacks.
Fans of both fighters were singing and dancing throughout the fight.
Simphiwe is not a fluke fighter; he came into the fight ranked in the top 10 by the World Boxing Association. He has 15 wins and five losses. Of these wins, seven came though a technical knockout (TKO).
Hekkie is now on 29 wins and one loss. Of these wins, nine came through TKO.
In the Welterweight bout, Paul Kamanga beat Jason Bedeman in a unanimous decision.
The International Junior Welterweight between Thompson Mokwana and Roman Zhailauov was decided on a split-decision.
The score was 77-78 to Zhailauov and two judges scored it 77-75 to Mokwana.
In the other fight on the night, Paul Kamanga beat Jason Bedeman with a unanimous decision to win the Welterweight title.
