Jeppe Boys players make it to the Lions’ den

"The prominance of Jeppe High School for Boys as a rugby school in Gauteng has been underlined by the number of players included in the Golden Lions schools teams," Jeanrique Snyman.

17 Jeppe High School for Boys rugby players were selected for the Golden Lions schools teams in preparation of the SA Rugby Inter-provincial Youth Week.

The two age groups, U/18 and U/16, are currently playing warm-up games against other franchises.

The school’s media liaison officer, Jeanrique Snyman, said from this group, seven are part of the U/18A team and five made it to the U/16A team.

He said this is the second highest number of players from one team.

He said that the U/18 team will be playing in the Craven Week and the U/16 team will play in the Coca Cola Grant Khomo Week next month.

”During the warm up games, the Golden Lions U/18 team beat the Leopards, drew with the Blue Bulls and lost 15-14 against the Valke,” said Snyman.

He said during the Valke game, the Jeppe Boys were on-form.

”The centre, Wandisile Simelane, scored one of his side’s two tries and kicked two conversions. The prop, Henry Sickens, was impressive in the scrums while Tyron Green was a handful on attack and very solid in defence,” he said.

Snyman said the Lions teams for the inter-provincial week has not been finalised yet.

”The U/18s will play a KwaZulu-Natal team at the Northern Unions Day in Vanderbijlpark on June 27. I am not expecting too many changes in the current squad,” he said.

Snyman said the U/18A team will play in the Coca Cola Craven Week competition in Stellenbosch in July.

“The U/18B team will be at the National Academy Week in Vanderbijlpark while the U/19 team will play in a Northern Union tournament in Potchefstroom. The U/16’s will be at the Coca Cola Grant Khomo Week in White River,” he said.

Jeppe Boys players who have been included in these teams are:
