Top teams show off during championships

On Sunday, March 8, teams competed in the semi-final and final stages of the tournament.

The South African Canoe Polo Championships were recently held at the Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg, with the traditionally strong Gauteng sides starting as favourites.

Rivals Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal were given more than a run for their money by the teams from the Western Cape.

Saturday, March 7, saw teams participate in the pool games.

On Sunday, March 8, teams competed in the semi-final and final stages of the tournament.

The final was hotly contested.

After 20 minutes, there was still no score, so the game went to the Golden Goal. The Western Cape team just pipped the Gauteng team to the post.

The final result saw Aurecon Western Cape walk away with gold. Gauteng’s U/21 team went home with a silver medal and the Gauteng Scouts received a bronze medal.

In the senior division, the final result saw the Gauteng Barbarians receive a gold medal while the Gauteng Men took home silver and the Western Cape team walked away with a bronze medal.
