Englishman, Andy Sullivan, seems to favour local golf courses, after he claimed his second European Tour title by winning the Joburg Open.

The NEWS previously reported that the Englishman won the SA Open at Glendower in January and on Sunday, he claimed victory in the Joburg Open hosted by the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.

Sullivan won when he hit a six-under-par final round of 66 to win the Joburg Open by two shots on 17 under par.

Sullivan had seven birdies and a bogey in his round to finish ahead of five players, including compatriots Anthony Wall and David Howell.

Howell missed a 30-foot eagle putt on the last to force a play-off and the return birdie putt that would have secured him second on his own.

Overnight leader, Wallie Coetsee, shot a 71 to also tie for second on 15 under.

Sullivan’s victory was his second European Tour title in eight weeks and earned him one of three spots up for grabs for the Open Championship at St Andrews in July.

Coetsee carded a six-under-par 66 in the opening round of the Joburg Open, which was played on Thursday.

Coetsee started his tournament on the east course. Players played a round on the west and the east course ahead of the halfway cut.

Coetsee made seven birdies and a bogey on the par 72 layout.

His friend, Titch Moore, carded an eight-under-63 on the 71 west course, to share the early lead with Thomas Pieters of Belgium.
