River Ridge announces top tennis players

In the women’s singles finals, 14-year-old Aimee Caplan from Holy Rosary School, proved to be far too consistent for the hard-hitting Nomvula Baloyi and beat her 6-2, 6-4.

The River Ridge Tennis Club, based in Marais Steyn Park, recently held is annual championships and prize giving.

The event was a success and a number of spectators arrived to support the finalists on the day.

Greg Ward, River Ridge Tennis Club’s resident coach, came out with his “A” game to beat Alex Busfy 6-4, 6-3 in a closely contested match.

Greg’s effective serve and volleys put pressure on Alex, who likes to control his shots from the baseline, working the point with great skill and craft.

In the women’s singles finals, 14-year-old Aimee Caplan from Holy Rosary School, proved to be far too consistent for the hard-hitting Nomvula Baloyi and beat her 6-2, 6-4.

Brad James and Conrad Lunderstedt beat Alex Busfy and Thys Visser 6-3, 6-2 in an entertaining, power-hitting men’s doubles finals.

Tristan Ciapparelli was the club’s junior winner.

A total of 26 juniors entered the tournament.

Membership for junior and senior players is still open at the River Ridge Tennis Club.
